If Kim Possible were a real-life person, would she have to wear clothes exclusively from Banana Republic Club Banana? After behind-the-scenes photos from the live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot set surfaced on April 7, fans of the original Cartoon Network show proved that, when it comes to the translation of cartoon outfits to IRL costumes, sometimes it’s OK to deviate from the original design. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup traditionally dress in monochromatic matching A-line dresses with black belts, white socks, and sleek black Mary Janes. The live-action reboot costumes are nothing short of accurate, but fans had a Mojo Jojo-level problem with the simplicity of the designs.

“If this is what the Powerpuff Girls look like, god knows what the Professor and Mojo Jojo will be like.”

Like the square, uncomplicated structure of the animated outfits, the IRL costumes leave a lot of detail to be desired. After all, if the … Read the rest

Earlier this week, an unedited photo of Khloé Kardashian appeared on social media and, as things tend to do on the internet, it spread. Soon after, people began posting about how her legal team was messaging many of them to take it down in a futile effort to have the image scrubbed from the internet.

But in the same way things spread rapidly online, they also never really go away. What followed was the perfect example of the Streisand Effect, which is what happens when efforts to hide something only end up publicizing it more. It was coined in 2005 by Techdirt’s Mike Masnick, and alluded to Barbra Streisand who, in 2003, sued a photographer for violation of privacy for taking an aerial shot of her California mansion as part of a public collection of coastline photographs. Prior to her filing the lawsuit, that photo had only been downloaded … Read the rest

Our editor in chief, Kat Collings, recently shared with us a special gem she is wearing on repeat at the moment. Naturally, we wanted to highlight the staple for you as well. The piece in question? This $14 ribbed tank from Amazon.

The Kamissy piece looks quite expensive (honestly, could be designer) because of the modern, higher cut and the ribbed fabric. The color is also noteworthy in the of-the-moment beige hue. The beauty of this trendy basic is that it’s highly versatile and could act as a base layer for a range of ensembles this spring and summer. In fact, Collings actually sent over a few photos showcasing how she’s styling her favorite tank.

Intrigued? Wonderful. Keep scrolling to learn more about why this expensive-looking tank is top-notch. If you go a bit farther, you’ll also find more affordable tank tops (under $30) that could also be of interest. … Read the rest

Twenty-one-year-old gender-fluid Lewis Freese has been recognized by Sports Illustrated Swim as the first-ever male finalist in the annual Swim Search for 2021, which is led by an open casting call. This is his second year applying to the contest, and he’s still a full-time student designing a major in business marketing, gender women sexuality studies, and retail merchandising. Lewis hails from Minnesota and takes his spot as one of the 15 finalists who could go on to be included in the issue among others from the LGBTQ+ community like trans woman of color Leyna Bloom and trans model Valentina Sampaio, both of whom made history on their own.

“Swimwear is one of the most binary forms of clothing, and I believe Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has redefined the true meaning of what a swimsuit embodies.”

Lewis took the time to thank his followers and support system in a video posted … Read the rest

After a tumultuous 2020 during which the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) Gala was first postponed and then eventually cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the annual festivities recognizing Canada’s brightest fashion stars are going virtual this year.

CAFA announced on April 8 that its seventh annual Awards Gala will take place virtually on May 19, 2021.

The beauty of a virtual event? No limit to the guest list! “In place of the traditional in-person CAFA Gala, the 2021 edition can be experienced virtually by all,” reads a press release. “A first for CAFA, the digital format democratizes the Gala while acknowledging and honouring Canadian fashion’s great creatives.”

Any trend that shows a little skin is one thing, but tacking on the fact that in order to make this trend really work one has to forfeit all undergarments? Yeah, it’s a lot to process, but after scrolling through the images and products below, I am confident you’ll be turned. This risqué detail we’re highlighting today looks like cascading keyholes that are held together by the skin of their teeth. Beneath them? Nothing, of course, hence the necessary removal of all undergarments beforehand. Be it a button closure or a dainty thread, the main objective is to give off the look that your garment is busting at the seams, and considering the fact that you’ll likely not be wearing a bra or underwear should this happen, the look is quite jarring (in a good way).

That’s half the fun of this trend though, isn’t it? These peephole-like cutouts create … Read the rest

For many of us, quarantine fashion translates to whatever is cozy 一 and sometimes cute. If you’ve been fortunate enough to spend most of your days lounging in sweatpants or leggings, just know that we’re right there with you. In uncertain times, it’s nice to feel a sense of camaraderie when it comes to getting dressed 一 which is precisely why I’m so thankful for Courtney Parchman, aka @averagefashionblogger, and her LOL-worthy TikToks that are all too relatable. Parchman (known as “Corny” to her friends) prides herself on making videos that celebrate bodies of all shapes and sizes, and simultaneously calls out the fashion industry for its complicity in propagating unrealistic beauty standards. Over a year into lockdown, it’s the wry humor and hilarity that I desperately need in my life.

Here, Parchman talks to POPSUGAR about the origin of the viral TikTok account, her favorite bloggers to follow, and … Read the rest

Like many of us over the past year, Pete Hellyer — founder of Non, a denim-centric label based in London — has been searching for meaning. With 15 years of experience in the e-commerce and digital realms of the fashion industry, he found his client-based work was becoming more sporadic as the pandemic’s hold intensified. “I had a lot of free time, and there was a lot of uncertainty,” says Hellyer, who had worked as creative director for businesses including Ssense and The Outnet before going freelance.

To bring a little cheer into his life, Hellyer — who, again like many of us, found himself primarily wearing loungewear throughout lockdown — decide to treat himself to a pair of jeans. “I live in denim,” he notes of his typical attire. “I’m one of those people with a uniform [of] a white tee and jeans.”

Revlon has been a makeup institution for decades. Since 1932 to be exact. Chances are you’ve probably used one or two (or more ) of the brand’s products, and you might even have some in your makeup bag right now. I’m pretty sure one of my first lipsticks was a classic Revlon tube. I distinctly remember feeling very grown-up using the black and gold tube. Or maybe you have one of the brand’s hair tools. If you haven’t heard of the cult-favorite hair dryer brush, you should look into it. According to some of our editors, it’s a life-changing styling tool.

Another thing that the brand does well is its nail polish selection. In fact, it was the first to introduce the idea of matching your nail color and lipstick, who knew?! The color range is extensive and the formulas are long-lasting. Not to mention they’re at a good price … Read the rest
