It’s safe to say that last year we pretty much all took a hiatus from poolside parties and packed trips to the beach. As an optimist, I’m hoping things will be a little different in the months ahead, and yup, my mind has already drifted into the world of bikinis. I’m not a huge swimsuit person, so of course I took to the Internet’s favorite mood board, Instagram, to glean which styles I should be betting my money on. It didn’t take long for one trend in particular to emerge as the clear winner: French cut bikinis are back, and in a big way. A dominant style of the 80s, this revealing bikini silhouette takes some sartorial courage to get used to. I’ve noticed different ways to pull off a French cut bikini: from barely-there string bottoms as seen on Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa, to more full coverage cuts.

Barbie Ferreira was one of the first celebrities to get her hands on H&M’s regal Simone Rocha collaboration, so we’re not at all surprised the brand tapped the Euphoria star to model its latest sustainable collection from a project called Innovation Stories. Barbie worked with her stylist of two years, Chris Horan (who was introduced through a mutual client and Barbie’s friend Rowan Blanchard), to select her favorites from the line and curate an outfit that represents her edgy taste. We talked to Horan about their exciting collaboration process.

“It’s nice to be able to incorporate these pieces into a look that is widely accessible and that people can re-create.”

“She has great ideas, and what she likes is always evolving – and that makes every project fun. We usually go through collections and send each other images back and forth. Sometimes, Barbie already has a makeup and hair vibe, … Read the rest

Amanda Gorman, activist, inaugural poet, and writer, is developing a signature color palette alongside her stylist Jason Bolden. It happens to be connected to the yellow Prada coat we saw her in when she first took the stage on Inauguration Day to read “The Hill We Climb,” which is now a book!

Gorman sat for a virtual interview on Good Morning America to celebrate her recent success and her new Penguin Random House publication, speaking as eloquently as ever to Robin Roberts. She wore yellow, as we could have predicted well enough by now, in the form of an Alice + Olivia babydoll minidress with a shirred mockneck and bishop sleeves. Even though the Karena design is still available for the moment, retailing at $465, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Gorman effect extends to Alice + Olivia’s retail site with how smitten people are by her bright … Read the rest

“What are you wearing?” It’s an exciting question you hear over and over again on the red carpet and at fashion shows. Yet it’s also the same inappropriate words that are all too familiar for survivors of sexual assault. Civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, who penned her own rights into existence after her rape as a college student, wants to reclaim that very question as both a survivor and lover of fashion.

“I realized I’d heard this question before in my life, after my rape. The exact same words, but in dramatically different contexts.”

When she first attended Fashion Week, she had a “light bulb moment,” Amanda, who’s the founder and CEO of Rise, a social movement accelerator for civil rights activists, told POPSUGAR in a recent interview. “I realized that one of the most popular questions to ask is, ‘I love your outfit, what are you wearing?’ I realized … Read the rest

Aazhia Rhy has had quite a year – unlike most of us, in a good way. The TLZ L’Femme designer not only dropped over 10 capsule collections, she’s dressed a handful of celebrities, including R&B sister duo Chloe x Halle at the BET Awards and Kylie Jenner (with her daughter Stormi!) for the cover of Vogue Czechoslovakia. After cementing her position at the forefront of fashion’s next generation, Rhy is now in full-on expansion mode for 2021. “Sometimes you don’t realize everything you do because you’re just going through the motions,” she tells POPSUGAR.

Before launching her label, Rhy was a style icon in her own right. Known for sporting daring, early aughts-inspired outfits, the designer often served her own muse, and has been expressing herself through fashion from a young age. It was Rhy’s sister, Janaé Rice, who first put fashion design on her radar after introducing her … Read the rest

We chatted with Jill to learn more about her styling process and how she’s been creating look one amazing after another, especially during the pandemic.

There’s nothing more exciting for a new brand than having a big-name star wear your clothes. Just one street style snap is capable of catapulting a little-known emerging designer to new heights of success. Fortunately, celebrity stylists often look to outside sources for the freshest, soon-to-be-big-deal labels, and for those who work with style-setters like Zendaya, Dua Lipa, and Cardi B, Up Next Designer appears to be one of the most trusted sources.

With a following upwards of 40,000, the Instagram account, which bills itself as “a curated space of young and innovative designers,” has already helped launch a number of small brands into the collective consciousness. Kylie Jenner recently donned a shimmery beaded two-piece by LA-based designer Erika Maish while vacationing in Utah, and English singer-songwriter Jorja Smith wore a printed bodysuit and pants set by Swedish designer Jade Cropper in her latest music video, both of which were … Read the rest

How do we love Demi Lovato? Let us count the ways.

When we don’t have her mood-boosting singles on repeat, you can find us waxing poetic over her unfiltered honesty, her remarkable strength, and the impeccable manner in which she expresses herself through her personal style – all of which are on full display in the singer’s new YouTube docuseries, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.

The four-episode doc shines a light on Lovato’s life over the past three years, holding nothing back as she bravely sets the record straight on topics relating to substance abuse, eating disorders, her near-fatal drug overdose in 2018, and her road to recovery. Each episode is raw and incredibly vulnerable, with members of Lovato’s family and team also providing their own candid accounts.

Admittedly, Lovato’s style is far from the biggest takeaway of the series, but is nevertheless worth revisiting. The eclectic mix … Read the rest
