Levi’s has announced its “Buy Better, Wear Longer” campaign, which features two of our favorite activists Jaden Smith and Emma Chamberlain, both of whom are known for teaming up with brands that reflect their core values. This initiative in particular speaks to the denim company’s sustainability efforts and raises awareness about the fashion industry’s overconsumption. Levi’s has committed to sourcing materials such as cottonized hemp and organic cotton and producing clothes through a water-saving manufacturing system. But the label asks us to do our part, too, by passing on our denim to future generations, buying secondhand, and taking advantage of options like Levi’s in-store Tailor Shops to extend the life of our pieces.

The campaign ads aren’t just expertly styled images of celebs in their jeans, if that’s what you’re thinking – they’re a reflection of change-makers who really care about our environment and want to support the Levi’s messaging. … Read the rest

Since launching her eponymous line, sustainability-focused designer Olivia Rubens has been able to count numerous accomplishments on her CV including last year’s win at the International Talent Support competition in the Responsible Fashion award category. Rubens also recently joined the ranks of Reture, an e-comm platform that connects fashion creatives with consumers looking to give new life to old garments and accessories. In addition to crafting upcycled pieces to sell on the site, Rubens can also be tapped to update pieces from your closet, should you be so inclined. And on Sunday, April 25 at 11 a.m. EST, she’s hosting a livestreamed-workshop through Fashion Open Studio as part of Fashion Revolution Week. The event, which is open for registration now, will focus on repurposing, mending knits and the process of finger knitting. Despite the ubiquity of jean shorts, finding the perfect pair can take a Herculean effort. With so many variables to consider – texture, fit, comfort, length, color, price, potential camel toe – it seems borderline impossible to find a style that checks all the boxes. And when you factor in a sizable butt and small waist (the two-ingredient recipe for the dreaded gape), it veers into hopeless territory. As someone who’s endeavored to go on this uberspecific jorts treasure hunt for years, I’m thrilled beyond belief to report that my search is finally over. Behold: Madewell’s Curvy Perfect Jean Short.

A riff on the brand’s vintage-inspired Perfect Jean Short, this brand-new fit is specifically designed for those with an hourglass silhouette (read: small in the center, big on the bottom). It has a narrow waist with a contoured band, a long rise, and room at the hip and thigh area, … Read the rest

When the term “vegan” was first coined in 1944, you’d have been hard pressed to find a soy-based cheese in your local grocery store. But today, with more vegan restaurants, brands and products popping up everywhere, commitment to a plant-based lifestyle has become increasingly accessible — and popular, especially among Gen Z. But while it’s been proven that vegan diets can lower our carbon footprint, the case is a little more complicated when it comes to vegan fashion.

Vegan leather, which was once considered a cheaper material and derisively labelled “pleather,” got a rebrand about a decade ago when brands started marketing it as a more ethical alternative to leather. Some of the first beloved fashion houses that helped popularize its use include Stella McCartney and Nanushka, a Budapest-based label that’s known expressly for its soft vegan leather. Now, the vegan leather industry — with its applications in fashion, footwear … Read the rest

And the award for Fashion Revenge goes to…Cher! The Bob Mackie creation might not be so shocking today, but in 1986 it ruffled more feathers than in the headdress that topped the wild and witchy look. Miffed at not being nominated for her role in Mask, the singer asked Mackie for a design that would convey her annoyance for not being taken seriously as an actress. Two years later … Read the rest

Former magazine editor and Fashion Director at Barneys Marina Larroudé has spent many years immersed in beautiful clothing and accessories. Larroudé decided to launch her namesake collection with her husband because she identified the need in the shoe market for a luxury product at an accessible price point. “I knew I wanted to design shoes using the best materials available and then to figure out the rest in terms of producing at a price I could pass on to the customer,” Larroudé told POPSUGAR. She recognized that when it came to luxury accessories, people were less willing to “take a risk.” Shoppers might have been drawn to a bright color or a fun print, but hesitant to make an investment in something that may not be a safe, classic choice. “My thought with this collection was that you can actually buy the emotional piece, and it’s going to last as … Read the rest

There was really only way to mark the occasion of Michael Kors’s 40th anniversary: By getting together some of the original supermodels of the 1990s, of course.

The supers were staples on ’90s catwalks — including Michael Kors shows, naturally. Together, they were behind some of the most iconic fashion moments. Christensen basically started a trend when she walked the Marc Jacobs-helmed Perry Ellis Spring/Summer 1993 runway wearing a plaid dress, cropped cardigan and Dr. Martens. Canadian Harlow brought many game-changing … Read the rest

Short of breaking out a 3D printer, designer and TikTok star Sarah Hambly created her own nearly identical copy of Taylor Swift’s dress at the 2021 Grammy Awards, and the attention to detail is remarkable. The Oscar de la Renta minidress was made with beige organza covered in floral appliqués and featured a high neckline and bell sleeves that gave it a ’70s-inspired vibe. With a lot of thread and one resilient sewing machine, Sarah spent the next three weeks re-creating the dress from scratch, and the finished result is a spring masterpiece.

Using a mesh fabric that she dyed nude and coated with a water-soluble stabilizer – to prevent any tears like the seam Taylor ripped under her right arm on Grammys night – Sarah set to work with her embroidery machine. “I just sat here and counted stitches and changed thread, changed needles, and just worked with that,” … Read the rest

Gucci’s Alessandro Michele reinvented the wheelhouse for the presentation of his Aria collection, which was unveiled during a thrilling 15-minute video that commented on the iconic brand’s popularity. But Michele knows Gucci’s 100-year fame is rooted in historic success, so he wanted to pay respect to those who came before him, as well as those whom he respects in the industry. Though social media had been rife with rumors of a Balenciaga collaboration leading up to the show, Michele was more just inspired by Demna Gvasalia, the Georgian fashion designer who has brilliantly incorporated Cristóbal Balenciaga’s DNA through his own vision for the house.

Michele has been delighted to watch him and felt a connection with him, as he explained to BoF. “I wanted to go back to the things I loved in Balenciaga and let fashion speak the same language. We need to speak with everybody, there should … Read the rest
