Born is a leading manufacturer of comfortable and stylish footwear for men, women and kids. Kin Groups. When Brazilians speak of “family” they usually mean a large extended kin group rather than the immediate family of spouse and children. This large kin group, the parentela , consists of all maternal and paternal relatives, along with in-laws. The parentela is at the core of social life and in time of need ideally provides assistance to its members. Such support can also be obtained through ritual kinship ( compadrio ) in which parents select additional allies and protectors as godparents for their children. Some claim that the multiple functions of these extended kinship networks has inhibited the development of extrafamilial organizations in Brazil, such as parent-teacher associations and garden and civic clubs. To Marxists, power implies oppression and therefore, should be overthrown in the name of liberation. The chief targets? The sacred things of civilization. Feminists, gay activists, Marxists, and other deconstructionists are on a mission to destroy that which is holy—to defile God. They abhor the family most of all—that institution of social reproduction, which involves a voluntary surrender to loyalties that bind you for life. They bind you most of all when you try to discard them. Satan works through men to bring about a world devoid of the sacred and in which the effort of social reproduction is no longer made. Wilson explains further that: “Mentally, culture involves the socially shared and customary ways of thinking, a way of encoding, perceiving, experiencing, ordering, processing, communicating and of behaviorally expressing information which distinguishes one cultural group from another. All these activities are dedicated to the end of adapting the culture to the consistent and changing demands of its physical and social environment and reciprocally adapting the environment to the demands of the culture. Though war and conquering were important to the Romans it usually ended well for them as the citizens of conquered nations were treated well and integrated into Roman society. However, the vastness of the republic became too much of a strain on the constitutional form of government and soon it was disbanded and replaced with an imperial government. (Thinkquest, 2010) The integration of Romans among other cultures and other cultures among Romans often led to the trading of ideas, traditions and beliefs systems among various cultures and civilizations. Great job. A people without the knowledge of their past, history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. I will like that some of us in diaspora who do not know our roots should go back and trace it.
The Sharpeville Massacre was one of the most important turning points in the history of South Africa. It triggered a chain of events, from the banning of liberation organizations, the launch of the armed struggle, the internationalization of the South Africa’s Apartheid policies and the growing division between black and white South Africans. “In fact, in the traditional African culture, there is no such things as two friends. Conversation groups were more or less naturally determined by age and division of labor. Thus one would find all boys whose job was to look after cattle periodically meeting at popular spots to engage in conversation about their cattle, girlfriends, parents, heroes, etc. The emergence and growth of sites and service schemes marked the end of squatter movements. By 1947 squatter movements had run their course and the country’s attention was drawn to the upcoming general elections in 1948. The election was contested on a number of issues, including the most desirable measures to be adopted to stem the tide of urban migration by black people. The Nationalist Party (NP) under D. F. Malan promised to bring back influx control regulations, and to tighten them and restrict the number of black people entering the urban areas. The NP emerged victorious in the elections and formed a government based on the principle of apartheid. The Nayar of Kerala India have amazing systems of many aspects involved with culture. Being a warrior caste has created some interesting and unique practices among these communities. Agriculturally based and for the most part fairly stable and equal, economically and financially speaking, not to mention holding its women in high regard with them maintaining ownership of property and dissention rights the Nayar have certainly proved worthy of further discussion. In an area abundant with modern fanatical religion in many varieties, somehow the Nayar manage to hold on to their ancestral magic and medicine men of old time superstition. For fathers to claim no rights to their wives and children, yet desire to do so, for mothers to claim all rights to children and appear to have little desire to claim a monogamous husband, the Nayar would be challenged to attempt to be any less traditional. From all areas discussed in this overview, beliefs and values, gender relations, economy, kinship and social organization, there is still so much left untold. This society will continue to remain the subject of intrigue and debate for generations to come as it has in preceding generations.
