Western boots, more commonly known as cowboy boots, have long been a part of the fashion industry. National Identity. A national culture was first formed by external powers through colonization. Even regional cultural differences emerged originally during the periods of mandate and trusteeship. A sentiment of common national identity is particularly strong in major institutions of socialization such as schools and during international soccer matches, visits by foreign dignitaries, and times of international dispute. Ahmadou Ahidjo, a Muslim from the northern city of Guider, who was president from independence until 1982, attempted to foster national integration by posting civil servants to areas outside their ethnic homelands. His successor, Paul Biya, is a Catholic of the Bulu (Beti) people of the South province. In 1983 and 1984, alleged coup attempts by those loyal to Ahidjo led to martial law and ethnic tensions between groups in the northern and southern regions. Since the legalization of multiparty politics in 1992, political parties have been increasingly associated with specific ethnic groups or regions. As for the cultural aspect of writing a Korean name in red ink, I found out about that one the hard way. I would write down information about the students in new classes, and one day I only had a red pen to use. As far as Jae Kim saying that information in this post is outdated, even though it was fifteen years ago, I doubt that people who had such an incredibly negative reaction to my actions at that time could have changed so much as to completely not care about it now. Because of how upset those students became when I wrote their names with a red pen, to this day I would absolutely avoid repeating the action. Does that make me Jae Kim’s idiot? I’d rather just say I’m trying to be considerate. The Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret features the history of the Old Operating Theatre in Southwark, near London Bridge. Some of the interesting things to consider about National Identity are that acceptance is not mandatory for the citizens living within a nation and change, such as shown in the Egyptian example, can be initiated. Acceptance of the changes unfortunately for those instigating them is also not mandatory. A National Identity and acceptance of it tends to influence behavior to a high degree especially in the dynamic where people deal with outsiders. If the citizens feel that the National Identity is a positive one and meets their needs, then we can expect them to participate, if not then they may protest or attempt to change it. The sense to belong†carries a lot of weight, especially today when so many people who claim to be their own person desperately struggle to find a place†to fit in. When tragedies occur such as America experienced on September 11th, there usually is a coming together of people; a time when all petty conflicts are put aside and everyone wears their patriotism proudly, flag fly, red, white, and blue become more prominent, and the American Eagle soars across the sky. Yet, when divisionary politics, globalization, and racial tension exists, National Identity is often attacked and used as a tool of further division politically, genetically, or culturally.
